SAM WEBINAR - AM Skills: 3D Thinking and Design for Additive Manufacturing’
16th March 2021

About the webinar:
Last round of surveys showed that the ability to think in 3D is an essential skill for AM workers. The ability to think in 3D can also be defined as AM Design or Ability to use space geometry, thus allowing less post processing adjustments and increasing the sustainability of the project. The guest-speakers that participated to the webinar were Dr. Adeayo Sotayo, Dr. Ing. Georg Schlick and Dr. Alexandre Hiricoiu with moderation of Kenan Boz. They provided an overview on the 3D Thinking and Design for Additive Manufacturing concept and it’s implementation from different angles, thus addressing challenges and opportunities.

The webinar covered:

  • Academic overview on ‘3D Thinking and Design for Additive Manufacturing’ by Dr. Eujin Pei from University of Brunel, UK.
  • Real case/industrial application ‘3D thinking applied to a real working environment’ by Dr. Ing. Georg Schlick from Fraunhofer Institute, Germany.
  • Training perspective ‘Design for Additive Manufacturing: Challenges, Critical skills, and Effective training methods’ by Dr. Alexandre Hiricoiu from Ansys, UK
  • Conclusion:
The event gathered around 90 participants from Europe interested in design for AM. One of several aspects discussed was about the selection of proper AM processes according to design for 3D multi-materials, design of the parts and material properties, among others.
